Support

Support is at the heart of sustaining and strengthening the growth of children and families beyond the time and space provided through Padres Unidos programs. Throughout their participation, families connect within welcoming and safe environments where they can share experiences, address challenges, and support one another. As relationships develop, families begin exchanging ideas, new knowledge, resources, and problem-solving strategies, creating strong support networks. These connections often continue long after the program ends, evolving into lasting friendships and fostering a deeper sense of belonging within schools and neighborhoods. 

Families shared the following about the Padres Unidos Support Strategy: 

“I only came because my friend insisted so much, but once I came once I realize this was legit and they are part of us”  

“What Padres Unidos brought to our neighborhood is a sense of connection and trust. When a family faces a challenge or has a need, we know exactly who has the information, resources, and willingness to help from within our own community.” 

“We have mothers who walk children to school every day and look out for families who may not be able to do so themselves. If they notice a child being approached by gang recruiters, they immediately alert other parents. Together, we make sure that child is supported and accompanied for several days, sending a clear message that they are protected and not an easy target. This collective effort helps discourage gangs from targeting youth in our neighborhood.”
